Documentary photography refers to photography that highlights events relevant to history or everyday life. In this class, you’ll travel to Cassoday, Kansas to photograph the Cassoday Bike Run. You’ll be a photojournalist for the day – someone who photographs, edits and displays images to tell a visual story.

If you want to carpool with other students, you will need to meet at CityArts and be on the road by 6:30 a.m. If you choose not to carpool, meet in Cassoday at 7:30 a.m. across the street from the post office at Main & Kansas Street ready to shoot.

Breakfast will be available for purchase at the Cassoday Café after class.

In this one-night refresher class, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about anything you’ve learned in the photography program that you aren’t clear on, such as white balance, custom white balance, focus lock, metering, exposure, compensation, flash photography, lens and equipment choices, tripods — virtually any topic concerning the DSLR that you wish to bring up. This is a discussion formatted class.

Finding and expressing our vision involves having our work critiqued in order to know where we are as photographers and artists and how others respond to our images. This is the quickest way to improve your work. This class asks you to bring your images on a flash drive for constructive classroom critique. Bring 10 photos and order them of importance you wish to have them critiqued. Learn from your images and your fellow classmates.
