CREATIVITY LAB - NEW

This exciting 2 hour class will explore many current and time-tested art techniques in a fun, easy way. No previous experience or tools are required. Every week, a different art piece will be created so you may want to sign up for more than one week! All supplies included unless otherwise stated.

 

BODY CASTING WORKSHOP: PLASTER HAND CASTING IN CLAY – NEW

This workshop will explore the process of body casting. Students will learn safety processes, plaster casting, and how to use a press mold. Each student will walk away with a casting of either a hand or a foot. Ages 16+

 

SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKE-UP ART – NEW

In this class, you will have a hands-on, interactive experience to learn how to create special effects with household products, theatrical make-up and finish with walking dead techniques. All supplies included. Age 16+

 

DRAGON, FISH OR INSECT HEAD MASKS - NEW

In this two week workshop, students will create a one of a kind head out of foam rubber. These masks can be wearable or just be mounted on a wall. Students will be responsible for providing spray paint for the second class. Ages 13+

 

Creating a Space of Resilience - Art Therapy Workshop

Sponsored by Robert J. Dole VAMC Community Outreach

This experiential workshop includes discussion related to the therapeutic application of the art making process as it relates to containment, resiliency, grief and bereavement. Participants will have an opportunity to select and decorate a box to retain as their own. Emphasis will be placed on the difference between “crafting” and Art Therapy. Discussion will include the importance of intention, embodiment, and internalization of safety. For if security is rooted in an external object/person, what happens when that connection is lost or removed?

Brush Marker Lettering

Learn how to use brush markers to letter in this introductory class! This is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the world right now, and this class will introduce you to all you need to know to successfully learn to letter. Using two different types of brush markers--the Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip and the Tombow dual tip brush marker--students will learn how to use different pressures to control the markers. Upstrokes and downstrokes will be emphasized with directions on how to form each letter. Students will also learn to connect letters into words with practice time included on adding simple variations and blending to their letters. Students will go home with a lettered quote of their choosing, using techniques taught in class. Students will receive 3 brush markers and a workbook to keep.

Watercolor Brush Lettering

Learn the beautiful art of watercolor brush lettering in this 3 hour workshop! Upstroke and downstroke techniques will be taught, and students will be introduced to a simple lettering alphabet suitable for this more flowing style of lettering. Students will be working with a waterbrush and a watercolor palette. By the end of this workshop, students will take home their own watercolor saying, along with being able to keep the waterbrush and palette. A handbook with instructions will also be included. This is an introductory course, so no experience is required!

 
Modern Calligraphy 2019.jpg

Introduction to Modern Calligraphy
Saturday, November 9th  |  9 a.m.-12 p.m.  |  $49

In this three hour class, you’ll learn the basics of pointed pen modern calligraphy. Skills covered include: basic strokes, upstrokes and down strokes, strokes into letters, lowercase alphabet and uppercase alphabet. Special attention is paid to technique and correct formation of letters. Participants will practice with a simple modern alphabet. A beginner’s calligraphy kit is included with this class with a holder, two different calligraphy nibs a small pot of ink and a calligraphy workbook.
